It happens to us all. We have so many things happening in our day to day life. Family responsibilities, one, two or even three jobs. Relationships to maintain. Housework and daily chores. Life can become very draining.
I can remember a few years ago feeling exactly like this. Over time I became more and more tired, to the point where going to the gym was becoming a chore. I didn’t know where I was going to get the energy to keep going. I started to feel sorry for myself, the negative self talk was overtaking the positive (without me even realizing it).
One day before a class I was talking to a co-worker about how I was feeling. I thought there must be something physically wrong with me, that I never have any energy. Why is this happening? Do you know what he said? “Sheran, just suck it up and do it”. Or words to that effect, it was a while ago now.
It was like a slap in the face. He was right. I was being self absorbed and negative.
My self talk changed. I berated myself for thinking this way! I wasn’t thinking clearly! Of course I can do this, I enjoy doing this! What am I thinking?!?
And from that day forward, I realized how important positive thinking is.
Not only did the change in my attitude make me happier mentally, but more energetic physically.
What a difference a good mental attitude makes!
So to my friend who (unintentionally) slapped me in the face that day, I say a BIG thank you to you. You may not even realize the effect your words had on me. But they were simple and to the point, and I am grateful for your words.
This is relatable right? Changing habits can be hard, especially something like self talk, it happens naturally, we don’t even realize it is happening.
I find a really good way to change thought patterns is to look at each situation from a different point of view. Look at the situation with GRATITUDE. In my situation, I had to think about how lucky I was to have the opportunity to teach classes, to be physically capable of exercising, to be living a life that allows me to be able to choose what I do with my time. So many people in the world don’t have half the opportunities we get.
Grab all opportunities that come your way. Be grateful, be humble and enjoy everything you have, WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE THEM! Not only will your attitude improve your life, but your health as well!
