What is your "Why"?

May 31, 2018

Life is busy!  It most definitely is for me.  I run businesses, I teach classes, I have a family I try to spend as much time with as I can.  Sometimes the household is run by me, sometimes not.

It just seems to be the way of the world today.  We take on so many roles in society, we sometimes lose ourselves or the reason for doing what we do.

Sometimes we have to stop, and work out what we want for ourselves, by looking at “why” we do what we do.

None of us are superhuman.  It is a fact that the more we take on, the lower the quality becomes of the many jobs we are doing.

But it can be hard to stop and put ourselves first, because we want to do everything for everyone.  I bet there are a lot of people out there that can relate to this!

It becomes important at some point that we stop, and look at the big picture, instead of trying to micromanage a lot of things at once.

What is most important to you, and “why” is this most important to you.  We can easily go through life wasting time and effort on things that won’t have any meaning to us when we get older.

Perspective is a powerful thing.

A good place to start is by imagining your life when you are 80 (yes, that is achievable for us all, because we build healthy habits!).

How do you want to be remembered when you are retired?  And who are the most important people in your life that this should matter to?

I bet that thought just narrowed the field a lot!

For me, family is always first.  Before anything material.

But, I also have a lot of self respect and self belief, and I know I deserve to be fulfilled as a person professionally.  This is a valuable legacy I want to leave for my children. To be strong, independent and go out and get what you want in life!  Follow your dreams!

So what are your dreams?  For me I have implemented a lot of changes in my career to allow what is important to me to become my priority.

I worked in a profession that I learnt a lot from.  It created my foundation.  It gave me confidence to branch out and become what I have become.  I have never had regrets about my early career, but I was never passionate about it, and that created a lot of stress for me.

I took a big step and moved into a career that was meaningful to me!  It was a big “out of comfort zone” change, I am not good with change, but looking back, it was the best thing I ever did for myself.

What is my “why”?  I want to encourage people to live a healthy lifestyle.  I want people to feel good, to move well, to enjoy life because they have a healthy positive attitude to life!  I want to see people become the best version of themselves they can be!

I couldn’t be happier with the choices I’ve made.

And there is more to come!  But we will save that for another story.

Find out your “why”.  Once you know this, the path ahead will be clearer.  Be determined to work hard for it. You deserve it!
