Failure isn’t failure, it’s the universe pushing you down a better path!
Isn’t that the saying?
I think this blog post is more for me this month, but hopefully it will resonate with a reader out there, and push you down a better path too.
I have always been a “dream big girl”. No matter what I’m doing, I’m never happy until I’ve pushed myself to the top of the pile, become the best I can become in whatever I am doing. Because if you don’t have a dream or a goal, where do you get your motivation? How do you get that elated feeling of success?
And there aint nothing wrong with that, right?
Until you stumble across failure!
I have had this happen to me over the last few days. The door was closed on a BIG goal I had set for myself to achieve. Something that was my passion, my professional priority. I had been working towards this goal for five years, and while I had taken a few steps forward, and a few steps back over this period of time, I received the news this week that I would not be given the opportunity to move forward.
I can’t even explain the barrage of emotions this news created inside of me.
It started with total and utter shock, to complete disappointment and anger in myself, shattered self confidence and even embarrassment that I had believed in myself so much, and didn’t get to where I wanted to be because I wasn’t good enough.
It’s a hard pill to swallow.
I have told myself countless times to allow myself to feel all of the emotions, that it is completely normal. I tell myself time will make me feel better, I will get stronger.
Let the grieving process happen.
We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can choose how we react to it. I can make the decision to let this beat me, or I can choose resilience and strength.
Resilience is such a powerful word, don’t you think? But like anything worth having, we have to actively engage in creating and building it.
Resilience comes from learning to cope when times get tough. It grows by drawing on your inner strength, and using the network of people around you to help you get through.
So I come back to the saying “Failure isn’t failure, it’s the universe pushing you down a better path”.
Like the Rocky movies, success comes from picking yourself up time and time again after being knocked down. It’s what makes us the person we are. Nothing will keep me down for long. I’m pretty tough.
I firmly believe another path will open up to me, and one day I will look back on this situation and will be thankful I was pushed in another direction so that I could achieve better things. Everything happens for a reason.
For now, I need to be happy with what I have achieved, sometimes your many successes in life can be overshadowed by that one big goal you didn’t reach, and we need to celebrate the small achievements and remember to be proud of ourselves.
And never be ashamed to take time out for yourself, and seek help from friends or a professional.
